TN: 1991 Ridge Sonoma Zin
I found this wine buried deep in the cellar along with a few other wines I didn't know I had.
Pop and poured:
Not very good, fading fruit and almost a sour taste to it. I'm half tempted to dump this guy out but I'll give it a little while longer to come around. Right now I'll score it 53 points because there's alcohol in it.

just 3 points for the alcohol factor? I thought it would be worth at least 5.

Life's too short. Dump that shit out if it sucks. Not like you don't have hundreds more to choose from...

Bad bottle IMHO. The 91 still has a lot of life (had one recently) Almost pulled the 92 on Saturday but opted for the 97 Limmerick Lane. I'll try to drink it and post soon.

It's getting a little better so I'll give it 20 more minutes.
I pulled out a 97 Cornas just in case.

Getting a lot better....picking up smoke, the sour taste is gone. 84 points and climbing.

Older Calis often need some air, especially Zins.

Your wise beyond your years. It's up to 89 points, and I think it's interesting.

Yea Mel, I've had the 91 Lytton Springs before and it's a lot better than the Sonoma. I'm happy enough with this wine, it's a Monday night and the wine is interesting.

Good to hear. Older Ridge's are usually a good bet to at least be interesting if not far better, even their lower end zins. The 93 Jimsomare Zin we opened a month ago was killer. Awesome acidity without being tart. Even impressed the Ridge vineyard manager. I have a 91 that I'm looking forward to. Good vintage in that region and much of California.Steve Saxon wrote:Cris Whetstone wrote:Older Calis often need some air, especially Zins.

Steve,
Perhaps we need to open the 1991 Geyserville this weekend to compare?
How far down did you have to dig for that one?

I thought you wanted to do great wines. I was going to bring an 82 bdx or something of that ilk.
Oh, I found this in my aussie pile on top of the box of Grange.
