Tn: 2005 Maybach Cabernet
Wow, I am speechless, that good. It has ben only 15 mn since opening the wine, just pop and pour, and it is my WOW wine of the year if not past year.
Let it be known, after I opened my first 04, I traded the remaining 2 bottle. That dissapointed.
This wine reminds me best of the 1999 Shafer HSS, which is earning hard each of its 97 points. That good and will post more tomorrow on its evolution.

Ian, come to San Diego, and you'll get a taste.
Jack, you telling me about this board makes you a foe of Mel!!!
Steve, I have 2 left, you have 1, no big deal.
Here is whay I love this wine so much: it is pure Cabernet. I really love them when they have Asian spices and have that spice box smell/taste. But this one is so pure in its Cabernet smell/taste it is a different experiance. I wish I could explain it better in words, but you'll just have to taste.

Pobega is a big proselytizer for this wine. I thought it very good and a step up from the '04, but I'm not quite sure that I'm completely convinced. The '06 is one to watch out for though. Stunning.

Ben, the only reason I stayed on the list after my dissapointing 04 was that so many people raved about the 06. And I want some of that.

Yes. I have had four bottles since October and they all were stellar. Easily the 96 pts that Parker gave it...unless you top it off with some '89 Bonneau Celestins.

No, a douche bag would have poured '61 Latour on top of '45 Mouton followed by '82 Krug.

I loved the 05 and the 04. Thought the 05 was slightly better though.

Otto, next time, invite me down - we'll see it 'not develop properly' together...
Re: Tn: 2005 Maybach Cabernet
The wine is definitely drinkable now with an hour or two of air. Between 04 and 06, the 04 is the most structured with a ton of natural acidity that needs some time to come into balance. I like it better than the 05 which to me was too ripe, jammy and chocolatey...still very good and we knew Parker would love the wine. Rich fruit, low acid, plush mouthfeel.
The 06 on the other hand, is like the perfect marriage of 05 and 04....one of the best young CA Cabs I have ever consumed. Right up there with 03 Araujo Eisele, tasting in Spring 06 and 02 Harlan Estate, also tasted in Spring 06.
Disclaimer: I used to work with Thomas Brown and helped bottle the 05 and 06 Maybach Cabernets.

I agree with you Tony. Had the 06 this past fall up at outpost and it was stellar even in its early stages.

Well, after a night of rest, the wine is gorgeous again. It was corked but not refrigerated. It had me worried for a while yesterday when it went through a phase of burnt sugar, but now it is simply delicious once again.

Easy wine of the night last night with some seriously good competetion. I opened the bottle for a splash decant about two hours prior to dinner. Beat the likes of SQN, Alban Reva and Carlisle Tom Feeney Zin.

It's all about the vineyard. That vineyard is one I would covet if I could. Next to Dalle Valle and Showket and above Backus, in that Oakville East region. The same fruit goes into the usually excellent Turnbull Black Label Cab.
