I am in my hotel room watching Food Network right now. I haven't had it at home in about 3 years, and I miss it. There are a LOT of new faces that I have never seen before.
I know we rag on people like Sandra Lee, etc, but who are your favorites now? If I was looking up a recipe on the FN web site, who's recipes could I most trust?

Alton's recipes are excellent. Ditto Giada. And I've never had an Emeril recipe fail me. He has tons on his website.

So basically, just the people I am already familiar with.

I have to agree with Bob. For me, it is Giada, Emeril and Alton. Beyond that I can't stand Rachel Ray or Guy Fieri, whose bad boy schtick is annoying at best. I do an excellent imitation of Paula Dean ya'all. But can't stand watching her show either.

Otherwise on other networks I like watching Bobby Flay (or is he on the Foodnetwork?), Tyler Florence and sometimes Ina Garten. I think she is hilarious when she is making "Jeffrey's favorites".

I love Alton Brown and Matio Batali. Lidia Bastianich is great, but she's on PBS.

The people you're NOT familiar with, the newer ones, aren't worth your time. They're not doing chefs any more, they're doing pablum.

I still hate that Marc clown who used to host the kids' game show, Double Dare. Smarmy bastard.

Food Network has fallen into the MTV mold of not being what it once was and aspired to be.

She was thinking of the Todd Network. All Todd, All the Time. Simple typo, that's all. (Those damn F and T's are so close to each other!!!)

You would definitely need a big screen for that.

I didn't see any one the new people this weekend who looked worth watching. I guess I'm not missing much.

I watch Alton Brown because he still uses the format for the purpose for which it was intended - to teach.
The rest of them, you can have. I will watch Giada if I'm desperate, but I can only take her in very small doses.
When she says "spa-gheeeee-teeee" I want to throw my shoe through the flatscreen, and that wouldn't be financially prudent.

Mike likes Tyler, Chiarello, Jamie (sometimes) and Lidia, who's older shows on Italy are a must see.

Giada is frustrating to watch. She's more a baker I believe, as her food is simple and things she does like jarred sauces are unheard of in a real italian pantry.

Mario is fun to watch, but obnoxious sometimes.

Some of the new people really suck: secrets of a restaurant chef? ridiculous.

The Neelys make me want to chuck! Gimme some sugaa sugaa. BLAH!

The Loft womens eyes make me afraid to shut the lights at night. I watched one and now need a nightlight.

The bald guy sucks too. Bobby is played out. Ray bites it.

In this order:

Tyler
Alton
Giada

Everything else sucks rice balls (or as Giada would say, ah-rhan-chee-nee).

He's not, though his re-runs might be, but his recipes are still available, at least on his own website. And recipes are what Leenda was asking about.

I agree, it's invariably a disapointment everytime I turn to the channel.

That being said, I'd go with Giada and then Alton.

Actually, I'm surprised Alton stays with them. With his production talent, I figured he'd pull a Tony Bourdain sooner or later and head somewhere he maintained his own rights.

Oh, now come on John. You can think of a couple of reasons to watch Giada.
Alton is a blast and most instructive.
Beyond them, I don't have much use for the rest.
