Wine Tonight?
I am having a platter of marinated olives, bressaola, pecorino, English Farmhouse Cheddar, manchego and Tillamook 2 Yr domestic cheddar for dinner. Wine will be a bottle of 2000 Arcadian Gary's Syrah, or possibly a 2003 Modus from Ruffino.

Re: Wine Tonight?
2nd half of the NV Billiot Brut that was kicking much ass last night. I had also had the last almost glass of 03 Monbousquet from the night before and it was still pretty oaky but at least it resembled Bordeaux 36 hours after decanting. I need to post notes from Sunday tonight also.

Re: Wine Tonight?
I'm thinking I might pull either a 2000 Beaucastel, or a 2000 Mon Aiuel to go with a pork shoulder I started this morning at 9am.

Re: Wine Tonight?
I'll be drinking a .375 bottle of 2004 Haut Brion. As for dinner I'll be having a Costco rib eye.

'03 Monbo is pretty oak laden...but me likey. I had it pop and pour. Twelve hours would probably help immensely.

Are either one of these even remotely ready for Prime Time?

I had decanted it about 11:30am. We got to it about 6:30. Oak monster all evening. Even the 98 we had next to it seemed on the oaky side, especially compared to the rest of the Bordeaux lineup. All four of the 96's were terrific.

I suppose it depends on your definition of Prime Time. The way you like em, they're prolly all dried out.
00 Beau is drinking really well and will be on the early side with regard to aging curve. A delicious wine and a great deal imo.
The 00 M.A. I heard was a stunner so I pulled one to give it a run. I'm sure it's way more primary than the Beau, but am curious to try it.
I figured either would be delicious with 3-4 pounds of pulled pork.

Re: Wine Tonight?
Bill if you see a bottle of 00 Beau for around 60 bucks, grab one and give it a whirl. Really nice glass of wine.

Hey Justin, How long should I decant the 1/2 bottle of HB?

Since it's just going to be you, I would pop and pour. But if it seems tight as hell, I would slam it into a decanter.

Re: Wine Tonight?
I went with vodka - either that or open and consume a whole bottle of wine, since I will be gone the next 2 nights.
Re: Wine Tonight?
Hey! This isn't Friday yet. Knock this stuff off.
I'm having a Bourbon Whiskey...aka brown wine.

Richard's, a retailer in Houston is doing a clearance sale. I don't think they ship unfortunately. I picked up '01 Pavie macquin for $30 and Pascal Doquet NV Rose for the same. They had '99 Pontet Canet at $19 but it was gone by the time I got to it. There is still a mag of '00 Montelena Estate at $100 that I'm considering for Flannery Fest.
