There was just a little in the box. The aromes have the corks pushed up a bit, still have capsules...one of the barolos popped almost all the way out and the other barolo still have the cork in, but I'm afraid of it now!!! So, yeah....$400 wine party at my place!

Where did you order from? Was it in styro?

It was completely my fault...I got them from Blicker Pierce, who I love, but I was the one who said to ship it ground....cheap Jew that I am! (I really am a jew, so I can say it)
Re: Boo...corks popped out!
How can you even remotely call yourself a cheap Jew...you bought an '05 Pavie on a whim?

How cold must it get to actually pop? 10? 5?

Melissa has a pic on Facebook (maybe) of a bottle of white that was in her freezer at home that pushed the cork out. I would think at a minimum, 10 deg F would be what you need for a prolonged period.

I'm surprised with styro and all.
I left 4 wines in my car last week when it was 8 degrees out for four hours while we ate dinner - no styro, no nothing. They were chilly, but we actually popped one at home and once it warmed was as good as ever (05 inman family pinot).

Re: Boo...corks popped out!
By the way, I didn't want to post them in the for sale section here, but these four wines can be had at a very reasonable price if you're interested! haha
Re: Boo...corks popped out!
I'm opening one of each tomorrow night, I'll post as to their condition afterwards
Same with my Alesia pinot
I just received a six pack of Alesia pinot and had the same experience. But the wonderful folks at Rhys told me that a new shipment is on the way and to keep the damaged wines to 'do with as you wish.' I think I'll be checking them out soon....
By the way, I'm loving this site...it's what the Squires EBob site was like many, many years ago, in its infancy.

I suppose those Alesia's were a victim of our bizarre 10 day 80+ degree Santa Ana condition in January.

Re: Boo...corks popped out!
Ok, i did open them last night with Kyle ( a new member of this board) - unfortunately, I was a bit out of sorts and left VERY early. The wines didn't seem ruined to me, but it was very hard to tell....They were just popped and poured and a 2004 barolo and a 2005 brodeaux shouldn't be expected to SHINE with no decanting. Kyle has the bottle still. maybe he can give them a whirl at some point today and let us know how they are.
Re: Boo...corks popped out!
too bad it wasn't turley, that wouldn't freeze till at least -20f

Alesia
We drank one of the Rhys Alesia Pinots whose cork had popped out almost completely, presumably from freezing in transit. We all agreed the wine tasted very fresh, and not ruined in any way...although it didn't match up well with the grilled marguerita pizzas and ribeye steaks. It was quite light in color. The nose was peppery, reminiscent of an Oregon Willlamette pinot. It seemed a little hot at first taste, but smoothed out nicely. Can't wait to get one of the replacement bottles to conduct a side by side test to see if the freezing had any noticeable effect on the flavor.
