I'm heading up to a party at the new Hourglass Blueline vineyard. I may take an 05 Maybach -- not sure what may be floating around up there, so I figure I'll come strapped, just in case. And I've been dying to try one anyhow.
Maybach did not suck...
Rest of the wines were good as well. Was forced to open a '99 Dalla Valle Cab though.

2001 Spottswoode

How did that Spottswode turn out? I have been sitting on some of these since release, but I haven't popped one yet.

What if they're only half bottles.

It's still really young obviously and is still in need of another of years to really come around. On day 2 it showed very well with the tannins more in check and the fruit more forward.
Bottom line is I'd wait two more years to consume but if you have a few and want to check it out then go for it.
I opened it partly as an alternative to opening an 02' which I know is probably about five years from being ready.

Keep us posted on the Maybach and Alban, especially since I have some of those albans coming

Both freakin' amazing. Maybach was the clear WOTN vs. seven other wines including an SQN Into The Dark that was on the table.

I took notes on 43 wines yesterday at Falltacular, and I tasted probably 10+ more after I got tired of taking notes. Talk about palate fatigue. But it was fun.

Re: What are you drinking this weekend?
Friday night:
06 Duchamp Syrah Cuvee Trouvee (blech!)
07 Terra di Chieti, Pecorino (Abruzzo, Italy) - terrific $18 or so white wine.
07 Grasso Barbera d' Alba - also terrific and would be a terrific pizza/pasta with red sauce wine
07 Babich Cellars, Debit (North Dalmatia, Croatia) - an under $15 white wine that would be a good accompaniment to shellfish. Nice cross between Chablis and Muscadet in flavor profile.
Saturday Night:
03 Core Coreferment - time to drink up!
04 Realm Cellars "The Tempest" Red Wine - couldn't finish. Too much heat/alcohol
Sunday Night:
07 ENO Cellars Viognier and other assorted wines with Dim Sum.

Last night:
Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 1996 BDB
JJ Prum Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese 2005
Hardy's "Cuvee Eileen Hardy" Shiraz 1994
Grahams Vintage porto 1985
The port was the star of the show but the Hardy's was very good as well.

Friday night we had a couple Pinots with Mac from Vision Cellars and Saturday night the owners
of 5 Points Cellars brought their lineup of Chard, Pinot Anderson Valley, Cab (Tokalon & Howell Mtn) & Syrah White Hawk.

2001 - Tres Picos Garnacha
Fruit forward, one dimensional, but enjoyable. Not good with tri-tip though.
