"House of Gutting" Dinner notes including SQN, Maybach, Alban, Carlisle, etc.
Wow what an evening. Thanks for coming down Bill. I'm just going to give brief notes and hopefully Bill or someone else could fill in because it got a little hazy for me.
05 Maybach- Damn. Huge wine that was well balanced and delicious.
05 Alban Reva- Damn good as well. Tons of coffee and mocha on the nose and beautiful in the mouth.
03 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah- We were surprised how accessible this was and it drank well. Pretty huge wine too but not over the top.
04 Pax Emerald Pool Syrah- I enjoyed this, but it wasn't in the same league as the Reva.
04 Carlisle Tom Feeney Zinfandel- wow, I love Carlisle. So well balanced and tasty. Just a great wine.
06 Westmar RRV Zinfandel- Nice but not as good as the Carlisle.
06 Alto Moncayo Grenache- I don't remember much
04 SQN Into the Dark- It didn't suck as Bill would say.
99 Dalle Valle Cabernet- Our final bottle thanks to Bill. A great wine but my palate was pretty gone by the time we got to it.
06 Landmark Grand Detour Sonoma Coast (At Tom's)- Nice stuff too but hazy.
Dinner Menu
First Course:
Coriander Venison Carpaccio with marinated mushrooms and fried chevre
Second Course:
Tommy Boy's Risotto with roasted beets, haricot vers, and rendered duck (delicious)
Third Course:
Smoked Filet Mignon with tomato garlic compote, blue cheese torte, and Joseph Swan ZInfandel reduction
Fourth Course:
Chocolate Cheese Cake with frangelico anglaise and fresh berries.
A great dinner all around. The big wines theme has made my Sunday completely miserable but well worth it. Thanks for coming down and sharing such great wines with us Bill.

I took no formal notes, but enjoyed everything. Thanks to Daniel for breaking out the SQN.
We also had an '02 von Strasser Rainin Vineyard Chard that has held up very well...rich and buttery with nice fruit still on the palate...definitely a Cali Chard all the way around. Gutting also brought a bottle of '05 dry German Riesling that I cannot remember to save my life.

Yeah I couldn't remember the whites much either, save the Colome Torrontes since I brought it. That Chard was buttered popcorn in a glass and very nice. From time to time, that style is a treat.
